Gheri Fouts
I was born and raised in Chicago Illinois. So for me, art was abstract, always needing interpretation and provoking emotion in the observer. After teaching science and math for several years, I found the opportunity to pursue my passion for art when I finally had the time to devote to watercolor painting.
I am fascinated with the works of the impressionists. They were brave in their pursuit of interpretation. When I began painting, I thought I would follow into abstract realism because that was more familiar to me, but instead, I found the challenge is in communicating the emotion of the moment by painting what I see the way I see it. I like to paint loose and impressionistically. I try to ask the question “Do you see what I see?” I am grateful for Judith Fredrickson who introduced me to watercolor and whose kindness, patience and instruction opened the way for me to explore and enjoy this pursuit. I am also fortunate to have studied watercolor under Eric Wiegardt in Oceanside, WA and Royal Nebeker from Clatsup Community College. I have shown my paintings at Trail’s End Art Association in Gearhart, the Astoria Visual Arts Association, and the Cannon Beach Arts Association. I also teach workshops and classes at Trail’s End.
