My art is truly an ongoing narrative, always in poetic motion and never done. Any pieces that become manifested are like laying down boards on a winding path, a personal journey where I must walk alone at first to discover certain synchronicities. I go with the flow looking for interesting moments to capture within the inspiring dynamic landscapes of the rugged north coast of Oregon. This nexus point is where the mighty Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean invoking mysterious and primal connections to the cross water currents.
I gain perspective through my photo diaries by re-focusing on composition, light and textures that cause me to stop and take notice of the world around me. I study my photo notes objectively before I reconnect to the process by translating to some paintings that I feel deserve more interpretation on an emotional level to further invoke the feelings I had in that moment. It is not about recreating a photographic detail that was already captured as one layer of truth in time. I am selective about what moves me to choose one photo over another to paint in abstract or composited highlights.
